Byron Middle School is a vital part of the Byron community and has experienced many changes in recent years. We are in a beautiful building which houses approximately 466 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Our school climate provides an atmosphere of basic respect for individual differences, yet challenges each student to achieve academic goals to his/her fullest capabilities. A breakfast program is provided to help meet the physical needs of our students in addition to other services offered at school. The school staff includes many support personnel, as well as qualified teachers and school leaders.

A goal of our curriculum program is to offer academic and exploratory classes which will help students develop mental processes, life long competencies, and attitudes needed for constructive citizenship.

The exploratory courses offered to our students are: computer utilization, technology, art and general music. Band and chorus are offered to students for extracurricular activities as well as football, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, cheerleading, and drill team. 4-H is also available to our students.

Byron Middle School has the opportunity to include such programs as PREP, an after school tutoring program for seventh and eighth grade students; and the Talented and Gifted program available to all students who qualify. Students have the opportunity to participate in the Beta club, Quiz Bowl, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Georgia Mathematics League Contest, and other activities related to academic competition. Sixth and eighth grade students participate in the Science Fair each year. Seventh grade students are required to enter the school Social Studies Fair which may lead to participation in the Georgia History Day at Macon College and the regional Social Studies Fair. These activities enhance concepts of competition and teamwork.

In summary, Byron Middle School may be in a small community but we offer big opportunities for our students. We welcome all newcomers!
