Last Minute Information!

The countdown has begun and the students (and staff) are excited about our three-day trip to Tybee Island and the Savannah area.  Below are some reminders and last minute items to help your child prepare for this trip.

Please have your student at school no later than 7:30 AM on the day of departure.  We will leave at exactly 8:01 AM on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.  We can not wait for late arrivals because we have deadline departures and schedules to meet in Savannah.  We WILL leave on time.

Please unload your student (and luggage) at the front door of the school.  Students will carry their belongings DIRECTLY to the 7th grade hall and wait there to be registered.  (Reminder: Our space is very limited -- Please bring only one piece of luggage, one sleeping bag/pillow, and one "carry-on" book bag).

Make sure all luggage and/or sleeping gear is labeled with a wide tape and felt marker.  (Last name printed in large letters).  Use blue marker for boys and red marker for girls.

If your child needs to take medicine, it must be delivered by the parent to the "medicine lady" -- Mrs. Lockerman.  Please have instructions with it.  She will only be the "keeper" of the medicine.  It will be your child's responsibility to ask for it when needed.  "Medicine" includes aspirin, cough syrup, Tylenol, or ANYTHING of a medicinal nature.  No staff member will share ANY form of medicine with a student.

If your child requires a special diet because of medical or religious reasons, send a WRITTEN REQUEST to Mr. Duke immediately so that he can call in a special menu.  It is the responsibility of the student to monitor and follow their special diet while on the trip.

IN CASE OF EXTREME EMERGENCY, your child can be contacted by calling the school, the principal, or assistant principal.  The phone number at the main office of the Tybee 4-H Center is 912-786-5534 but it should not be used unless a dire emergency exists.  There is a public telephone available at the 4-H cafeteria for students' use for emergencies also.

Part of this trip will include a guided tour on a Coast Guard approved tour boat.  Dolphin Tours at Bull Creek is the host.  It is a commercially operated tour service that is licensed and certified for on-water excursions.  If you specifically do not want your child on this boat, write a letter stating that you do not want (the name of your child) to go on the boat ride/tour.  No refunds will be issued because it is part of the package deal.

Most students like to take some extra money to buy refreshments, souvenirs, and snacks.  We usually stop a couple of times at "fast food joints."  You be the judge of how much money for them to have, but try to limit it to a reasonable amount.  Discourage them from bringing any items of value.

It can be VERY COLD at the beach.  Please be CERTAIN that they have plenty of warm clothes!  A cheap raincoat is also a good idea.

If you need any further information, look at the sheets that have been sent home.  You can also call the school and ask one of the teachers.

We will RETURN to Byron Middle School Friday,
March 14th at 2:30 PM.  Please be there to pick up your student.  They will not be permitted to ride their normal bus because of their luggage, etc.
