A goal of Byron Middle School is to develop a well-rounded globally competitive student. The curriculum program offers academic and connections’ classes which will help students develop mental processes, life- long competencies, and attitudes needed for constructive citizenship. Prior to 1993, Byron Elementary School consisted of grades K through 8, and was housed in one building with its kindergarten located in the old Byron School. In 1993, grades 6, 7, and 8 became the new Byron Middle School and adopted the Middle School Concept. The concept focuses on the rapidly changing learners who are in transition from childhood to adolescence. Under the leadership of the late Mr. Gary Clark, Byron Middle School was recognized as a 2004 Georgia School of Excellence in academic achievement. Byron Middle School is a great place for students. A small student body (less than 500), a full-time Resource Officer and fifty-five caring adults make it a safe place for student learning. Dedicated and imaginative teachers make learning challenging and fun. The school made AYP in 2009 under the leadership of former principal, Dr. Ken Banter, and in 2010 under the leadership of Ms. Annette Ross.
